General dentistry places an emphasis on oral hygiene and disease prevention through regular teeth brushing, flossing, and visits to the dentist. It’s an important part of keeping an individual healthy. Cosmetic dentistry, on the other hand, focuses on improving the appearance of an individual’s mouth, teeth, and smile. Cosmetic dentistry is elective and is something that a person chooses because they feel it will enhance their smile.

There’s a wide variety of cosmetic dentistry procedures available to give people an improved self-esteem. Each procedure is designed to be customized to work for an individual. Which means the doctor can tweak any procedure to work for your needs and if a procedure won’t work he will find a procedure that does work for you.

Teeth Whitening

This is one of the most commonly requested cosmetic dental procedures. Over time your teeth become stained from smoking, drinking, and enjoying a variety of foods. Teeth whitening involves bleaching your teeth to reverse the staining. This procedure is not permanent and must be repeated if you continue to drink coffee, red wine, or anything else that might cause staining. You can support your teeth whitening by using whitening toothpastes and mouthwashes, and avoiding foods and drinks that cause stains.

Composite Bonding

Many patients come to Dr. Kasperowski with chipped or broken teeth that they want repaired. Composite bonding is a great way to achieve an attractive smile without having to undergo extractions and permanent prosthetics. Dental composite material looks like enamel and is incredibly strong. It can be applied to a tooth and sculpted to match the shape of the tooth so that it blends in well.

Veneers

Veneers are thin shells of porcelain or composite that are bonded to the surface of a tooth. They’re incredibly durable and commonly used to repair chips and cracks. Veneers are a great option for people who have gaps in their teeth or have severe tooth discoloration that cannot be fixed with teeth whitening. Most commonly, porcelain veneers are placed on the front teeth to improve a person’s appearance.

Implants

Implants are a form of permanent prosthetics that function just like a person’s natural teeth. The process of getting implants is time-consuming, but they’re a great option for people who don’t want to both with dentures, which slip and cause speech impediments, along with issues eating. They require a titanium post be implanted into a person’s jaw bone and after the bone heals a permanent crown affixed to the post.

Inlays/Onlays

Inlays and onlays use porcelain and composite filling materials to fill teeth that have extensive tooth decay and structural damage. Unlike traditional fillings, which are inserted directly into a tooth, inlays and onlays are created in a lab prior to being fitted and then adhered in place. This ensures they’re durable and will last for many years to come.
